How to use the chart

1. If you know your foot length, choose the foot length column and enter it in millimetres, or the Japan column in centimetres. The finder highlights the first row that is long enough.
2. If you have a size from a label, choose the column of that system and enter the number. The row shows the same foot in the other systems.
3. Compare the result with the size chart of the brand or seller, which decides. A seller chart that gives foot length in centimetres is the most reliable part of any listing.

Each row is one step of 5 mm: the step of Chinese and Korean sizes and of Japanese half sizes. Without JavaScript the finder is unavailable, but the chart is complete.

How the sizes are derived

• China: the current standard, GB/T 43293-2022, marks a shoe with the foot length in millimetres, for example 250, sometimes followed by the foot width, as in 250/94. It is the same system as the international Mondopoint.
• Korea: sizes are marked under KS M ISO 9407, the Korean adoption of Mondopoint, so a Korean 250 is also a foot of 250 mm.
• Japan: the Japanese standard JIS S 5037 bases sizes on foot length as well; the label gives it in centimetres, so 25 or 25.0 means 250 mm.
• China, older scale: many sellers still print sizes such as 38, 40 or 42. This scale counts steps of 5 mm; the size is twice the foot length in centimetres, minus 10. A foot of 25 cm is 2 × 25 − 10 = 40. The scale is a convention and not part of the current standard.
• EU, UK and US: calculated from the same foot length with the formulas of ISO/TS 19407, as on the men’s and women’s charts, and rounded to the nearest half size.

The older Chinese scale grows by one size every 5 mm, the EU scale by one size every 6.67 mm. The two numbers agree near a foot of 24 cm and drift apart for larger feet: for a foot of 27.5 cm the older Chinese size is 45 and the EU size is 43.5.

What a label such as 45 (EU 42) means

Marketplace listings often print two numbers, such as 45 (EU 42). The first number is the size in the seller’s own chart; the second is the EU size that the seller says it matches. The label tells you that this 45 is not the EU 45 you may know: by the seller’s own chart it is three EU sizes smaller.

Neither number can be decoded with a formula. By the older Chinese scale, 45 is a foot of 27.5 cm, which is EU 43.5 by the formulas, not EU 42. Go by the centimetre length in the seller’s chart, and if there is none, ask for it before you buy.

Brand charts differ

Labels in centimetres or millimetres are not always the foot length. The Nike chart for Korea prints JP and KR sizes that are longer than the foot length in the same row, and notes that the centimetre size on the box and label is not the foot length.

If a brand chart gives foot lengths, look up your own foot length in that chart. Use this page when a label gives only a number, or to see what the number means by the standards.

Worked example

Your longer foot measures 24.3 cm and you are buying from a Korean shop that lists sizes 240, 245 and 250.

1. Korean sizes are foot lengths in millimetres: 243 mm lies between 240 and 245, so take 245, the first size that is long enough.
2. The same row gives Japan 24.5, older Chinese scale 39, EU 39, UK 6, US men’s 7 and US women’s 8.
3. Check with the formula for the older scale: 2 × 24.5 − 10 = 39.

If the same shoe is listed on a Chinese marketplace as 39 (EU 39), both numbers point to the same row. If it is listed as 39 (EU 37), the seller’s chart runs smaller; find its centimetre length first.

Common mistakes

• Reading an older Chinese size as an EU size. They agree near 24 cm, but at 27.5 cm the older Chinese 45 is EU 43.5.
• Reading a Japanese 26 as a US or EU size. It is a foot length in centimetres.
• Adding room to the foot length before looking it up. Mondopoint sizes name the foot, and the formulas for EU, UK and US sizes already contain the room.
• Taking a KR or JP label as the foot length when a brand chart prints both. In the Nike chart for Korea the label is 6 to 13 mm longer than the foot.
• Measuring the smaller foot. Fit the longer one.

Sources and checks

The values in the chart are calculated from the definitions in the sources below. They are not copied from another chart. Last checked against the sources on September 29, 2026.

The first two columns are the foot length. In the Chinese standard and in Korean marking the size is that length in millimetres; Japanese sizes state it in centimetres.

The older Chinese scale is a convention that is still printed by many sellers. It is not part of the current standard, and brands do not all follow it.

EU, UK and US sizes are calculated from the foot length with the formulas of ISO/TS 19407:2015 and rounded to the nearest half size, as on the men's and women's charts of this site.
