How to use the chart
- If you know your foot length, choose foot length in the finder and enter it. The finder highlights the first size that is long enough.
- If you know your size in one system, choose that system and enter the size. The highlighted row shows the other systems.
- Compare the result with the size chart of the brand before you buy.
The first chart has one row for each US half size. The second chart has one row for each 5 mm of foot length, which is how Mondopoint and Japanese sizes are counted. Without JavaScript the finder is unavailable, but both charts are complete.
How the sizes are derived
Every value is calculated from foot length. The formulas come from the international technical specification for converting shoe sizes, ISO/TS 19407.
- UK size: foot length divided by 8.47 mm, plus 2, minus 25. One size is a barleycorn, a third of an inch.
- US men's size: the UK size plus 1.
- EU size: foot length divided by 6.67 mm, plus 2. One size is a Paris point, two thirds of a centimetre.
- Mondopoint and Japanese sizes: the foot length itself, in millimetres or centimetres.
The 2 in the formulas is the room between the foot and the inside of the shoe: two sizes of the system, about 17 mm for UK and US sizes and about 13 mm for EU sizes. You do not need to add room yourself.
Results are rounded to the nearest half size. Because a UK size step is longer than an EU size step, some EU half sizes have no row in the first chart.
Worked example
Your longer foot measures 26.8 cm.
- UK: 268 divided by 8.47 is 31.64. Plus 2, minus 25, is 8.64.
- The next half size that is long enough is UK 9, which is calculated for a foot of 27.1 cm.
- US men's: 9 plus 1 is 10.
- EU: 271 divided by 6.67, plus 2, is 42.63, rounded to 42.5.
The finder gives the same row: US men's 10, UK 9, EU 42.5. In Japanese sizes, a foot of 26.8 cm takes 27.0.
Brand charts differ
The standards behind shoe sizes are voluntary, and every brand publishes its own chart. The table compares this page with four brand charts for nearly the same foot.

Centimetre sizes on labels can differ from the foot length as well: for a foot of 27.1 cm, the Nike and adidas charts print 28 cm.
The charts agree within about one size, but not exactly. If the brand publishes a chart with foot lengths, use your foot length and that chart. Use this page when the seller gives no chart, or to understand what a size label roughly means.
Common mistakes
- Measuring the shoe or the insole instead of the foot. The chart is based on foot length.
- Adding a centimetre for comfort before looking up the size. The room is already part of the formulas.
- Assuming EU 44 is the same shoe in every brand. In the brand charts checked, EU 44 and EU 42.5 are printed for nearly the same foot.
- Ignoring width. Two shoes of the same length can fit differently; US widths are lettered and lie 3/16 inch apart.
- Fitting the smaller foot. Most people have one foot slightly longer; fit that one.
Sources and checks
The values in the chart are calculated from the definitions in the sources below. They are not copied from another chart. Last checked against the sources on September 28, 2026.
Sizes are calculated from foot length with the formulas of ISO/TS 19407:2015 and rounded to the nearest half size. The formulas were read in the 2015 edition, which has since been replaced by ISO 19407:2023; the tables of the current edition were not read.
US men's sizes are UK sizes plus one. This equals the definition used by the Brannock measuring device.
Foot length is the length of the foot, not of the shoe or the insole. Mondopoint and Japanese sizes state the foot length directly.
Brand charts differ from these values and from each other. In the four brand charts checked, a foot of about 27 cm is a US men's 9 or 10, a UK 8.5, 9 or 9.5 and an EU 42.5 or 44. Use the chart of the brand when you buy.
Used for: The formulas that give UK and EU sizes from foot length, the size steps of 8.47 mm and 6.67 mm, the allowance of two sizes between foot and last, and the usual offsets of US sizes from UK sizes.
Used for: The current edition of the conversion standard and its statement that its adult tables are a guideline. Its tables were not read.
Used for: US men's size 1 corresponds to 7 2/3 inches, each further size adds 1/3 inch, and widths are 3/16 inch apart.
Used for: The barleycorn of one third of an inch, half sizes of one sixth of an inch, children's sizes that run to 13 before adult sizes restart at 1, and UK women's 5 being US women's 7.

Frequently asked questions
- What is a US men's 10 in EU size?
- By the standard formulas a US men’s 10 is an EU 42.5, calculated for a foot of about 27.1 cm. Two sports brands we checked label the same foot length EU 44, so check the chart of the brand.
- What is the difference between US and UK men's sizes?
- By the formulas a US men's size is the UK size plus 1: US 10 is UK 9. Some brands use a difference of half a size instead.
- What is my shoe size in cm?
- By definition, Mondopoint and Japanese sizes are your foot length: a foot of 26.5 cm takes size 26.5, or 265 in millimetres. Brands may print a larger number, so compare with the foot length in their chart.
- Should I round up or down between two sizes?
- Round up. The finder does this for foot lengths: it selects the first size that is calculated for a foot at least as long as yours.
- Why does my usual size not fit in another brand?
- Each brand builds on its own lasts and publishes its own chart. In the four brand charts we compared, the same foot of about 27 cm is a US 9 in one and a US 10 in the others.
