Men's to women's shoe size conversion

Conversion chart

Each row is one foot length. Read across from the men's size to the women's size in the convention your brand uses.

Which column applies?

• One size up is the classic relation. It is how the Brannock measuring device used in shoe shops is drawn, and how the international conversion specification describes US sizes: men's are UK plus 1, women's usually UK plus 2.
• One and a half sizes up is what the Nike and New Balance charts print. The adidas chart uses one size.
• If a unisex shoe lists both sizes on the label or the product page, that pair is the one to use.

For other brands, open their size chart and look for a row that lists both sizes side by side.

How to convert

1. From men's to women's: add 1, or 1.5 for brands that use the larger offset.
2. From women's to men's: subtract the same number.
3. From either to UK or EU: use the row of the chart; those sizes do not depend on who the shoe is sold to.

How the values are derived

The Brannock Device Company defines US men's size 1 as a foot of 7 2/3 inches and adds one third of an inch for each size. Its women's scale is drawn one size higher for the same foot. The chart calculates the foot length of each men's size from this definition and adds 1, or 1.5, to get the women's size.

UK sizes are the men’s size minus 1. EU sizes are calculated from the foot length: divided by 6.67 mm, plus 2, rounded to the nearest half size.

Worked example

You wear a US women's 9 and want a men's running shoe from a brand that uses the larger offset.

1. 9 minus 1.5 is 7.5. Look for a men's 7.5.
2. With a brand that uses one size, the same foot takes a men's 8.
3. Check the foot length the brand prints for that size against your own foot length.

Common mistakes

• Converting UK or EU sizes. They are one scale; only US sizes differ between men and women.
• Assuming every brand uses 1.5. Some use 1.
• Forgetting shape. Length is only one dimension; a shoe built on a different last can fit differently at the same length.
• Converting twice. If the product page already shows both sizes, do not add the offset again.

The values in the chart are calculated from the definitions in the sources below. They are not copied from another chart. Last checked against the sources on September 28, 2026.

The column with one size difference follows the Brannock device and ISO/TS 19407:2015. The column with one and a half sizes is the offset printed in the Nike and New Balance charts that were checked; the adidas chart uses one size.

UK sizes are the same for men and women. EU sizes are calculated from foot length and rounded to the nearest half size.

Length alone does not guarantee fit. Width and shape depend on the model.
