Kids' clothing sizes by height
A label of 110 on European or Chinese children’s clothes is for a child about 110 cm tall. US sizes are ages and letters: for 110 cm, Gap lists 5 yrs or XS and Target’s Cat & Jack chart 5T/5.

How to use the finder
- Measure your child standing straight against a wall, without shoes, from the floor to the top of the head.
- Enter the height in centimetres or inches. If you only have a label such as 98, 110 or 120, enter the number with centimetres: the label is a height.
- The finder shows the size in each retailer’s chart. Between two sizes, it names the larger one.
- Before you buy, check the chart of the brand you are buying. The charts below disagree with each other, and other brands differ again.

How the sizes relate to height
European and Chinese labels are body measurements. The international standard ISO 8559-2 uses body height as the primary dimension for infants’ clothes and height, with chest or bust girth, for many boys’ and girls’ garments. A label of 110 therefore describes a child about 110 cm tall.
The Chinese national standard for children’s garments is GB/T 1335.3. Chinese size labels give the height in centimetres first and a girth second, for tops the chest: 110/56 is for a child about 110 cm tall with a chest of about 56 cm.
US sizes are not measurements. They name an age in months, a toddler size such as 3T, a number such as 7 or a letter. We found no free US standard that fixes the height for these sizes, so this page does not offer one conversion. It shows what two large US retailers publish, side by side, and converts their inches to centimetres at 2.54 cm per inch.
Retailers do not agree whether a label is the top or the middle of the range a size fits. Gap prints 110 cm next to its 5 yrs size and next to XS, but those sizes fit children from 106.7 cm and from 99.1 cm up to 114.3 cm.
Gap baby, toddler and kids sizes
Gap publishes length for babies and height for older children in inches, and a Japanese size in centimetres for each size.

Target Cat & Jack sizes
Target’s own brand publishes height ranges in inches. The toddler chart is for girls; the kids’ charts differ between girls and boys, and some sizes are listed with ranges that overlap or leave gaps.

Worked example: a child of 104 cm
Your child is 104 cm tall. In inches that is 104 ÷ 2.54 = 40.9 in.
- Gap, baby and toddler: 4 yrs fits 39 to 42 in, so 4 yrs. Gap prints 105 cm next to it.
- Gap, girls and boys: XS fits 39 to 45 in.
- Target Cat & Jack: 4T/4 fits 39 to 43 in; the girls’ chart also lists a 4 for 40.5 to 41.5 in.
- A European label of 104 is made for the same child.
If the child grows 6 cm to 110 cm, which is 43.3 in, Gap still lists XS, but at Target the height falls between 4T/4, which ends at 43 in, and 5T/5, which starts at 43.5 in. Take 5T/5.
Common mistakes
- Reading a height label as an age. A 110 is for a child about 110 cm tall, whatever the age.
- Assuming 24 months and 2T are the same. At Gap, 18 to 24 months fits 31 to 33 in; at Target, 2T fits 33 to 35.5 in.
- Using one retailer’s chart for another brand. The two charts on this page already disagree.
- Measuring with shoes on or with the child slouching. A few centimetres can change the size.
- Converting a label with a fixed rule such as “110 is 4T”. It depends on the retailer.

The values in the chart are the sizes published by the organisations listed below. Last checked against the sources on September 29, 2026.
No free US standard for children's clothing sizes was found, so the US sizes are those two retailers publish, side by side. Heights are the inch values of each retailer; centimetres are conversions at 2.54 cm per inch, rounded to one decimal.
The retailers' charts were read on the date below and may change. Gap's own chart also prints centimetre values, rounded to whole centimetres, which differ from the conversions by less than 1 cm.
European and Chinese labels such as 110 name a body height in centimetres. Retailers do not agree on whether that height is the top or the middle of the range a size fits.
Used for: Body height is the primary dimension for infants' clothing, and height is a primary dimension of boys' and girls' garments in the table of primary and secondary dimensions.

- What does size 110 mean on kids' clothes?
- It names a child about 110 cm tall, which is 43.3 in. In US sizes that is 5 yrs or XS at Gap; at Target Cat & Jack it falls between 4T/4 and 5T/5, so take 5T/5.
- What is size 80 in baby clothes in US sizes?
- A label of 80 is for a baby about 80 cm long, which is 31.5 in. Gap’s chart gives 18–24 months for 31 to 33 in, and Target’s gives 18M for 31 to 32.5 in.
- What is Chinese size 120 in US kids' sizes?
- Chinese 120 is a height of 120 cm, 47.2 in. That is S at Gap. At Target Cat & Jack it is 6X in the girls’ chart; in the boys’ chart it lies between 6 and 7, so take 7.
- Is 24 months the same size as 2T?
- Not in these charts. Gap’s 18–24 months fits children of 31 to 33 in, while Target’s 2T fits 33 to 35.5 in, about 5 cm taller. Gap calls the next size 2 yrs, for 33 to 36 in.
- Should I size up when my child is between two sizes?
- Yes. Gap’s chart advises sizing up when a child falls between two sizes, and the finder names the larger size in that case. Check the brand’s chart first: a gap in one chart can be inside a size in another.
